The Chamberlain Group (CGI) is one of the largest manufacturers of residential and commercial access control systems globally. LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Merlin, and Grifco are some of the significant brands it’s known for. These products serve the residential and commercial sectors and include garage door openers, gate operators, and intelligent access systems.

The Chamberlain company was established in 1906 in Waterloo, Iowa, where it originally produced farming machinery. In 1968, the company entered the garage door opener industry which marked a substantial shift in its business model. The company then became a pioneer in manufacturing and technology, introducing innovative products and systems such as wireless keypads, rolling code security, and smart technology.

For many decades, The Duchossois Group was the owner of the Chamberlain Group and managed the company. However, in 2021, Blackstone, one of the largest investment firms globally, acquired a majority stake in the company. The purchase was meant to drive smart home technology growth, global expansion, and e-commerce distribution forward for Chamberlain.

Chamberlain offers various garage door opener models that are popular among different user groups. Some common models include belt-driven openers (B450, B550, B750) under the Chamberlain name. These models are known to be quiet and include WiFi technology for smart features. Other models such as the B970 and B6753T are known for being high-end and include unique features like battery backup and a built-in camera, respectively.

Under the LiftMaster name, which caters to the professional series market, the company offers models like the 81600 (chain drive) and 87504-267 (belt drive with camera). Wall-mounted models are also common among heavy users, with the 98022MC and 98032MC being the popular choices. These models are heavy-duty, long-lasting, and come with several auxiliary smart features such as integrated LED lights, advanced diagnostics, and additional security.

Most models under the Chamberlain and LiftMaster brands are equipped with the patented myQ technology. This user-friendly technology allows customers to manage their garage doors remotely through their mobile devices. Real-time alerts, scheduled closing/openings, and smart home connectivity are all possible with the use of the myQ app.
