Should I use long stem rollers on my garage door?

Long Stem rollers are for commercial and residential Carriage House doors. The reason for the long-standing rollers is because on these types of garage doors that hinges on the left and right hand side are doubled up in other words there’s two hinges instead of just one on the left and right hand side. The reason for the doubled up hinges is for extra support on a garage door of that size and weight the door panels way much more and need just a little bit more support so they put the extra hands on each panel and also use the long stem rollers because of the extra space needed. Typically this would be a 8 to 12 inch long stem roller. This will also help if a garage door cable jumps off the cable drums then the door at that point usually goes crooked or either to the left or either to the right and I’ll longstem roller will sometimes mean the difference between the door coming out of the track and crashing down on your car or out of the bottom of the door and cause other problems.

underneath the garage door

If a door like this Carriage House or commercial comes down on in a garage then it could make a big mess especially if there are vehicles underneath the garage door. This would also be beneficial to use long stem rollers on a conventional basic steel or wood garage door in your home because if it ever jump cables then you would have a little extra play in the distance the door travels away from the track before it completely comes out. So if you wanted to use long stem rollers I say go ahead it’s not going to heard anything and he can also help you out in a case where there is a door malfunction. Also I have had to install garage door track where it had to be more than three quarters of an inch away from the door which is standard and in this case since the track had to be so much further away then I would use long stem rollers to make sure that the rollers didn’t pop out of the hinges on the left and right hand side of the door.

door that periodically pops out of track

So if you had a old garage door that periodically pops out of track because the door the door is too far away from the track and you can’t replace it right away and I would suggest replacing all the rollers and make sure that they are new so that way that the wheel part of the rollers not popping out of track and also if the door go sideways for any reason because it’s old and giving you problems then longstem rollers would absolutely be a good idea.
