Where can I buy a wood garage door?

Wood garage doors are manufactured in several ways. The standard wood sectional garage door is constructed of all wood with long or short panels they are usually 1.5 inches thick. Then you have a combination of steel and wood overlay carriage style garage doors. These doors are basically a steel garage door with stained or painted wood overlay on the outside of the panels.

Stain grade or paint grade wood

The other type of wood garage door is a custom carriage house door constructed entirely of wood and is usually about 3.5 inches thick. They are made of either stain grade or paint grade wood and are custom made to fit your size garage door opening and witch ever design and window option available to you.

Not all local garage door companies specialize in wood doors but can be easily available to them. I would suggest finding a door company that does specialize in wood doors because they will be more informative and have the experience you will want when spending the extra money you will need for custom wood doors. There is a lot more involved with wood doors than steel doors. There are also special finishes needed to protect a wood door from the elements. A good quality custom wood door will be made of marine grade wood and finish just like what is used to build wooden boats.
