What type of garage door is considered as a good quality garage door?

There are many different garage door manufactures and in all my years of installing and repairing garage doors my opinion on quality doors goes like this. Amarr, Raynor, Clopay and C.H.I. should be at the top of the list.

Amarr brand garage doors have a huge selection of garage doors

In their catalog that can be used for any personal style that sets them apart from the rest. They have a really good warranty and they are very durable. Raynor makes a really good quality door especially their process for insulating garage doors. This is really good for homes that are in extreme winter regions like New York or Chicago. They are manufactured in Canada so that might have something to do with it. Clopay garage doors are manufactured by a company that makes everything from garage doors to aerospace products for NASA but mostly they make building products. Don’t Know a lot about C.H.I. but I know people in the business and they seem to like them a lot.

The Brands you should avoid are as follows:

Wayne Dalton and Overhead Door Co. These 2 companies quickly come to mind when I think of junk. The thing about these 2 companies is they are always trying to engineer something new and different and it never works out. Overhead Door now makes their door hinges out of plastic. Really, Plastic? Absolute junk and to add fuel to the fire they are way overpriced. And if you have to replace a panel on an Overhead Door you would have to call them to do the work and pay their prices. If I have a customer with their brand door they charge me twice what the other manufacturers charge for the same panel. So it would be cheaper for them to replace it because I would not be able to make a profit because they know I’m there competition.

As far as Wayne Dalton goes

I call it very innovative junk. There torquemaster spring system is an engineering disaster. There iDrive openers is another engineering disaster and of course these products cost more than the mainstream quality products sold on the market.

Here is an example. I worked for a garage door company in L.A. and he did a lot of work for home warranty companies that fix and replace appliances in your home. He made it clear that any time we encountered a Wayne Dalton product we were to turn around get back in the truck and call the warranty co. and refuse the job. Any garage door manufactures not talked about above doesn’t mean they are bad I just pointed out the best and worst products.
