How to program a garage door opener to my car built in remote?

How to program a garage door opener to my car built in remote (home link) on a ford, Chevy, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, GMC, Cadillac, Mazda?

If you have built in garage door remotes in your car it is most likely made by a company called Homelink.  This technology is not always compatible with the new MyQ Liftmaster/Craftsman openers from 2013 and newer. There is a repeater that Homelink will sell you to be compatible with cars made before 2013. I think its about 35-40 dollars with S&H. I am pretty sure cars made in 2014 will be compatible with MyQ openers.

control your garage door gates

All auto manufacturers now give you the Homelink option on a new vehicle. You can control your garage door gates and they also have devices you can add to even control lights or appliances inside your home from the convenience of your car. Not every auto manufacturer uses Homelink technology so here is a list of the many that do. Acura, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Bentley, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet,  Chrysler, Dodge, Eagle, Ferrari, Fiat, Fisker, Ford GMC, Honda, Etc… Im pretty sure they cover all major brands.

clear any old codes

The first step is to clear any old codes if needed of if car is new or new to you. If you are adding a device than do not clear any codes. It will wipe any existing devices and will need to be reprogrammed.  To start from beginning and clear old codes you need to push and hold both outer buttons at the same time until the LED light starts to blink then let go of buttons. Now it is clear of all old codes. There is 2 ways the Homelink built in transmitters accept codes. The first way you have to hold the remote that came with the opener that you usually put on your sun visor or keychain. Take this remote and hold it about 3-5 inches from the 3 programming buttons in your car. Now press the remote button and the desired Homelink button at the same time until you see the LED light flash slow then fast. Now release both buttons and press the homelink button to see if it activates the garage door opener. If you see the LED light blink Fast and then light up steady solid than you will need to use the alternate instructions for a rolling code device.

For rolling code devices you might want to get a ladder and another person to lend a hand real quick. You will first need to locate the programming buttons on your opener unit and find the learn button. The learn button is the button that programs remotes to the unit. If your opener has a wire hanging from it than this is the antenna and the learn button is always close to it. You will have to have someone push this button once while you press the desired Homelink button in your car for about 2 seconds. You might have to press and hold the button up to 3 times to complete the programming of the button. If ypu have trouble after that than go to homelink.com and they have all the info you need.

This is pretty much the process for all vehicle manufacturers so if you have trouble Homelink will let you know any details about your opener brand and how it works with Homelink.
