How to programm Liftmaster 877 max Keypad

To program your 877MAX wireless keyless entry keypad for your garage door opener, please follow these step-by-step instructions. This keypad is compatible with LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Sears Craftsman garage door openers manufactured after 1993 that have a functioning Learn button.

Before You Begin:

  • Make sure you know where the Learn button is located on your garage door opener motor unit. It’s usually on the back or side of the motor and may be under a light cover. The color of the Learn button will be important for programming.

Programming Instructions:

  1. Clear Previous Codes (Optional):
    • If the keypad is new, you can skip this step. If you’re reprogramming or troubleshooting, it’s a good idea to clear any previous codes.
    • On the keypad, press and hold the * and # keys simultaneously until the keypad lights stop blinking (about 5 seconds).
  2. Enter a New 4-Digit PIN:
    • Enter a 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) of your choice on the keypad.
  3. Press the # Key:
    • After entering your PIN, press the # key to confirm.
  4. Specify the Garage Door Opener Type:
    • Based on the color of your garage door opener’s Learn button, enter the corresponding number and then press #:
      • Yellow Learn Button: Press 1, then #
      • Purple Learn Button: Press 2, then #
      • Red/Orange Learn Button: Press 3, then #
      • Green Learn Button: Press 4, then #
  5. Activate the Garage Door Opener’s Learn Mode:
    • Go to your garage door opener motor unit.
    • Press and release the Learn button. An indicator light will illuminate or blink, indicating that the opener is in Learn mode. You typically have 30 seconds to complete the next step.
  6. Complete the Programming on the Keypad:
    • Return to the keypad.
    • Enter your 4-digit PIN again.
    • Press and hold the 0 key until the garage door opener lights blink or you hear two clicks. This indicates that the keypad has been successfully programmed.
  7. Test the Keypad:
    • Wait a few seconds, then enter your PIN on the keypad and press the Enter key to test if the garage door opens or closes.

Additional Tips:

  • Multiple Doors: If you’re programming the keypad to control more than one garage door, you’ll need to repeat the steps for each door and assign a different PIN or button as needed.
  • Battery Check: Ensure the keypad battery is fresh. The 877MAX uses a 9V battery.
  • Weather Protection: Install the keypad in a location that is protected from direct weather exposure to prolong its life.

Troubleshooting:

  • If the garage door doesn’t respond, repeat the programming steps to ensure they were performed correctly.
  • Make sure you’re within range of the garage door opener when programming.
  • Check that the garage door opener is functioning properly with other remotes.

Safety Precautions:

  • Keep the keypad code confidential to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Do not let children play with garage door controls.
  • Regularly test the garage door’s safety features to ensure proper operation.

For Further Assistance:

  • Refer to your garage door opener’s user manual for model-specific instructions.
  • Visit the manufacturer’s website for additional support and instructional videos.
  • Contact a professional technician if you encounter any issues.

By following these steps, your 877MAX keypad should be successfully programmed and ready for use.
