Garage door is crooked what should i do?

Q: Garage door is crooked what should i do?
A: When a garage door has had a malfunction and sits crooked in the door opening it ia always a spring or cable or both have broken. (Cables attach at the bottom brackets on the bottom corners of door and run up or up and back to the springs) The most common reason is jumped cables. One or both cables has jumped off of the cable drums. (cable drums are in the upper right and left hand corners attached to the same pole as springs and cable winds up on them as door opens.) If a door is crooked when in the up position can cause more damage because the top of the door wants to pop out of the track and can fall onto you or any vehicles in garage.
Jumped cables can be caused by the door hitting an object or stored items near or around the door track. Or if the door is opened manually by hand and lifted to fast and cables can jump off drums when it hits the top of its maximum open position. Also when old cables deteriorate they can snap and cause a crooked door.
The best action to take of course is to call a technician. A garage door in this condition can be very dangerous.
Whenever i come across a door crooked in the up position i usually have to take door apart piece by piece and then put it all back together like installing a new door. If door is crooked in the down position i usually just adjust springs set the cables and its an easy fix.
When door is crooked they are almost impossible to get closed. Do not try to pull door down yourself. You will do more damage to door and cost more money than needed. Just get a technician to your home asap so you dont have to leave a garage open all day or night for safety reasons.
