Can I use a universal remote on a MYQ garage door opener?

The New MyQ technology that comes with Liftmaster openers was designed to give you information and control of your garage from the convenience of a smartphone with a phone App. You can check if you left your garage door open. Like if you left for vacation and can’t remember if you closed the door when you pulled out of the garage. You can open and close the door from anywhere you are in the world. This makes it easy to open your door for someone who forgot there keys or for anybody that needs access to your garage or home. Recently most of the major garage door manufacturers are developing similar technology for there opener units.

universal remotes

The only brand of universal remotes that I have ever used is the same one you will get at Home Depot and Lowes. It is made by Chamberlain/Liftmaster but bares the name Clicker. They manufacture the most sold brand of universal remotes and wireless keypads. These universal remotes are mostly universal to Genie, Chamberlain/Liftmaster, Linear,Moore-o-Matic, Multi Codes, Stanley and Craftsman. If you find another brand of universal remote and it is compatible with Liftmaster or Craftsman opener that having the MyQ technology in your opener will not make any difference. As long as the universal remote works with these brands within the last 3-4 years. Thats how old MyQ technology is.

built in garage door remotes

If you have built in garage door remotes in your car it is most likely made by a company called Homelink unless your car is European. The European auto makers use a different company. This technology is not always compatible with the new MyQ Liftmaster/Craftsman openers from 2013 and newer. There is a repeater that Homelink will sell you to be compatible with cars made before 2013. I think its about 35-40 dollars with S&H. I am pretty sure cars made in 2014 will be compatible with MyQ openers.
