If you want to replace the wood on your garage door because it is water rotten for the elements have just destroyed it and it is falling apart then if you just replace the new wood exactly the same thickness as the old wood you should be okay but if you want to get creative and adding a bunch of new wood for design and visual effect you will have to be careful because when you add weight to the door the springs will either have to be adjusted or recently replaced with a stronger spring to accommodate the extra weight.
