The Genie Company, founded in 1923 as the Alliance Manufacturing Company in Ohio, initially produced a variety of consumer, industrial, and military products. In 1954, the company introduced its first garage door opener, called “Genie,” which became the first mass-produced, radio-controlled residential garage door opener. This innovation set the stage for Genie’s lasting reputation for safety, reliability, and technological advancement.
In 1958, Genie engineers introduced the first direct-drive screw opener, further cementing the company’s leadership in the garage door opener market. The company’s success continued through the 1970s, when it expanded its product line to mass retailers, driven by the growing do-it-yourself market. Genie became known for its strong consumer appeal and innovative designs.
By 1994, Genie had grown into a trusted brand in the industry and was acquired by Overhead Door Corporation. Today, Genie is recognized for incorporating advanced features like the Intellicode security system, which automatically changes the security code with each use, and the Safe-T-Beam infrared system for enhanced safety.
Genie remains a household name in garage door openers, known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and customer service
