A piece of metal in the middle of my garage door panel broke, can i fix it?

Q: A piece of metal in the middle of my garage door panel broke, can i fix it?

A: The metal supports that run vertically inside door panel are called styles. (Styles: Metal supports that are glued and welded to panel for rigidity also where the hinges attach to door.)

Most often the style in the middle of the top panel of garage door will break away from panel. Most tly from garage door opener has pulled it apart from either door being locked and someone activated door opener. Or any of the styles can can come apart from panel over life of door.

In most cases if the metal style if not bent or destroyed it can be put back in place with rivets or screws. If they are bent or distorted most door manufactures sell replacements. If replacement is not possible than panel replacement is the way to fix damage panel. Sometimes repair will be temporary solution.

I usually carry a style on my truck because when an opener tears one off the door is a common problem. Also i have had to put rivets in style from the outside of door to secure it properly and customers tend to not like they way it looks but some have not had a choice because a new panel wasn’t in their budget.

There is only two ways to deal with this problem. Replace door style for a temporary fix. Or replace door panel and problem should not persist.
