Can I buy a garage door strut at Home Depot or Lowe’s?

Well Lowe’s and Home Depot do so garage doors in their stores and they do sell a some basic garage door and garage door opener parts also. But in most cases when you buy a garage door at home depot or Lowes you will have to order it. Especially if your garage door is wider than 8 feet. I think that Lowe’s carries garage doors on their sales floor but they are usually only 8 feet wide and they come with a home installation hardware kit and is not the kind of hardware kit you would buy from a professional garage door company. As far as replacement hardware and components for garage doors and garage door openers Lowe’s and Home Depot carry just basic parts like hinges and rollers and also keyed locks and sometimes you will see other garage door parts. And as far as garage door openers they sell the remotes and keyless entry keypads and things of that nature. As far as garage door struts I don’t think I have ever seen them for sale at Lowe’s or Home Depot but I could be wrong and it may be something new that they would sell but as far as I know from the past is that you have to get a part like that from a garage door company Or manufacturer.

Lowes and Home Depot

I have found that Lowes and Home Depot are now starting to carry more and more parts for garage doors. Now if you have a garage door that is 8 feet wide you can use an 8 foot piece of punched angle as a strut in a pinch but it will not give you the same kind of reinforcement that a real garage door strut will give you but sometimes it is better than nothing at all. Punched angle is a piece of sheet metal that is folded in half and in L shape and is made of sheet-metal also it will have holes punched in to it all away across so that you can cut them to size and put nuts and bolts to fasten Them together to reinforce garage door track and also garage door openers this is what we used to commonly call back hangs and they call him back hangs because they hang the back of the garage door track so it does not fall down.

punched angle as a strut?

So if you have to use a piece of punched angle as a strut on your garage door then you must remember to make sure it is as long as your garage door is wide and you will have to screw it or bolt it to the left and right hand side of the garage door and also in the middle of the garage door so that all three points are connected. And yes you will find punched angle at Home Depot and Lowe’s and also you should try to find the thickest gauge piece of punched angle sheet-metal because the thicker the Sheet-metal the more reinforcement you’ll get from the punched angle.
