Is it OK if on my Amarr garage door one of the springs is orange and the other one is yellow?

Torsion springs are the long tubular shaped springs that have a torsion pole running through them. The torsion pole will usually be 6 to 10 inches longer than the garage door. They are more visible when the garage door is in the down position. Most of the time they are located above the garage door. Torsion springs are marked with colored paint not very much but usually on the end of the spring and it’ll either be tan, green, gold, blue, orange, yellow, white, red, or brown. Manufacturers mark the springs with these colors so it is easier to identify the wire size of the coil. When it comes to torsion springs they are measured specifically for the weight and height of your garage door. They have to be strong enough to lift the weight of your particular garage door to the height of which opens your garage door all the way.

Sometimes if you have an odd shaped garage door may be a 14 x 7 or eight 20 x 7 then the torsion springs that counterbalance the garage door will have to perfectly balance that particular weight of your garage door. There is a formula that garage door manufacturers used to determine the size of a spring needed lift that garage door to a particular height and sometimes it requires different wire sizes achieve the perfect counterbalance. So having two different wires size springs is not uncommon at all. Now if you have to replace those garage door springs when they break then a good garage door technician will take into consideration that there are 2 springs and each one has a different wire size or coil size in order to lift that garage door. Now sometimes the paint that determines a wire size that is painted on a brand-new torsion spring may have worn off or it is so old and rusty that paint is no longer visible. So when it comes to replacing a broken torsion spring a good garage door technician will determine the wire size of the broken spring and if the homeowner wants the Other spring which maybe not broken to be replaced should also determine the wire size and length of that spring also to make sure he has the proper counterbalance to properly open the garage door.

If your garage door is properly balanced with the torsion springs then you should be able to lift it with two fingers all the way and it should close all the way to the floor without leaving a gap at the bottom most commonly because of the Spring is to hot and  too much tension the door when he cause the door to open a inch or two because there is a little bit too much tension. Another way to test the balance of the garage door is to open it manually by hand halfway and if the door stays in place and does not want to come down or go up then it is perfectly balanced. So if your garage door is perfectly balanced then there is no need to be alarmed about different size springs on your garage door because those are the size springs that it takes to counterbalance the garage door  Properly.
