if you have one bad roller it’s possible that you have more than one bad roller and absolutely can cause a door to go off the track. The main reason to cause the door to go off-track from one bad roller or several bad rollers is the fact that if the door does not roll up and down properly in the opener is going to have a hard time opening and closing the garage door. In other words if the garage opener cannot open the door Then it can make the cables jump off of the cable drum and this will cause the garage door to be crooked and if the garage door is crooked then the rollers are going to start to pop out. If a garage door roller is worn down so much that it has lost its radius which means the tread part of the wheel has worn down so much that it will pop out of the track because it is designed to stay in the track because of the radius that it is manufactured with.

The door is designed with a 90° angle in front and a curved angle inside and the curved angle is what the wheel tread of the roller rolls into. So if the roller has warned out so much that it will pop out of that inside curve with then it’s going to pop out and is going to cause a bunch of problems. I have seen garage doors where the roller or rollers have popped out of the track but the door would still be functional and go up and down. Crazy as it sounds believe me it happens.

Also, if you have rollers that have a solid plastic wheel with no metal ball bearings and it breaks apart this will also easily make the roller pop out of the track because it has broken in half workpiece has broken out and it easily slips out of the track causing the same kind of problems. Even if you have a broken spring or broken cable or any other problem with a garage door is still possible to open and close it as long as the rollers are in tact they are absolutely the most important part of the functionality of a garage door. And rollers can also be a big factor when it comes to the noise the garage door makes when it opens and closes a decent set of rollers and some proper lubrication once or twice a year will make a big difference when it comes to a noisy door. The best way to tell if your rollers are functioning properly is to open the door manually just pull on the red emergency release court on your opener if you have one then try to open the door by lifting it by hand if the door does not want to go up easily or down easily then it’s possible that your rollers need to be lubricated and or replaced. If there is one thing that you should maintain our garage door on a regular basis it is absolutely the rollers and the track that should be lubricated at least once or twice a year this will make your life a lot easier. And if your rollers in chakra properly lubricated that if there is a problem you can exclude out garage door rollers as being a problem because unless they break apart and they are properly lubricated and they will always function properly.
