Stanley

Empowering access for everyone

Stanley was a leading name in the garage door opener industry, particularly from the 1970s to the 1990s. Stanley’s garage door openers were part of Stanley Works, which initially gained fame for its hand tools. In the 1970s, Stanley introduced wireless remote-controlled garage door openers, which became one of their hallmark innovations.

However, by the mid-1990s, Stanley decided to exit the garage door opener business. The division was sold to Whistler Corporation, and by 2001, the company completely discontinued the production of garage door openers. One of the reasons for the phase-out was the increasing need for newer safety standards, such as photoelectric sensors, which Stanley products at the time lacked.

Stanley garage door openers were known for their durability but also had some recurring mechanical issues, particularly with plastic parts that would often break. Despite this, the brand was popular for many years due to its user-friendly design and innovative features. Today, parts for Stanley garage door openers are rare, and many people who own them opt for replacements with modern systems that meet current safety and technology standards.
