How to program a Keypad/Keyless for Genie opener?

Both older and new models of wireless keypads made by genie should use the same steps to program codes to the opener unit. The first thing you should do is make sure the battery is working correctly. You can easily test it by pressing any button and the keypad will light up. If its a sunny day than cover keypad with your hands to see if you can get the keys to light up.

Genie keypads

The first thing you have to do on Genie keypads is set your PIN (personal Identification number) to the keypad. First you have to activate keypad to programming mode. Step 1 you have to press the 3,5&7 keys along with the enter button or open button. Newer keypads have a button with an up and down arrows on it. After you have all 4 buttons pressed at the same time the red LED light will blink very slow about once per second. At this time you need to push your 3-8 digit code and then press the PROGRAM button. The LED light will flash 2 times and shut off.

find the LEARN button

The next step is to find the LEARN button on the opener unit. Most models the learn button is behind the White plastic light cover. It is a small white or black button right below a red LED light. Some models like the stealth or Overhead Door brand openers the learn button should be in the back of the opener unit. It is labeled LEARN but can be hard to read so have a flashlight handy. If your unit is older or if you have an external receiver box wired in to unit than you will have to pop off the cover on the external receiver box to access the learn button. Ok once you have located the learn button then push it and the LED light will blink. Now go over to the keypad and enter your PIN code and press the open button. The LED on opener unit will blink rapidly and shut off. If this process fails to program keypad then repeat steps again before you call Genie customer support.
