What is the difference between a commercial garage door and a residential garage door?

Residential garage doors are engineered for private residences and commercial garage doors are engineered for warehouses and commercial type buildings. The difference between the 2 is commercial doors are made with heavy-duty panels and hardware for the rigorous usage it will endure on a commercial building. There are 2 types of commercial garage doors.

barrel or sheet door

One is a sectional roll up pretty much like the garage door on your home. The other is what they call a barrel or sheet door. This type of door rolls up on a barrel at the top of the opening instead of track. Commercial doors are made of thicker metal than residential doors and are made to last longer. The main thing that separates the two is the size of the door. Commercial doors can be up to 20 ft. tall or more.
