How much space should I clear in the garage prior to new garage door installation?

When it comes to garages that have a lot of storage items it is a nightmare for installers and repair techs. We would all like to work in an empty garage but it is not always the case. At the very least all items should be cleared out from wall to wall and 10 to 11 feet back from the door opening. If you are having a opener installed with the door then add a couple feet back to allow the tech to properly install the opener that is 10 feet long on a 7 foot tall door. If your garage opening is taller than 8 feet than just keep adding room to the back of the garage to allow for the extra room that will be needed.

Garage doors installers will require room to maneuver in

The easiest way to clear out a garage full of storage that I have found in the past is to move everything out onto the front lawn or driveway if possible. The installers will need space on the driveway to unload and build the doors so ask the local garage doors company before hand to make sure. Moving all items right outside the garage makes it easier to move them back in and keep as much of it away from the installers as possible. Don’t know how many times I have broken items in a garage just because they were in the way. Also never wait until installers show up to start moving items out. There is a good chance they will jump back in the truck and tell you to call when your done.
