Does a broken hinge damage the garage door?

Q: Does a broken hinge damage the garage door?
A: (Garage door hinge: Hinges attach to back of door in between door panels that tie panels together so the door can bend when opening and closing).
Hinges tend to deteriorate over time and when they break cause the door to open and close incorrectly. Sometimes the screws that hold them on door panels will come loose and fall out causing same problem as a broken hinge. Some door manufactures use hinges that are made of thinner steel than others. The thinner hinges will break down faster. Other manufactures use a thicker more rigid hinge that will last the life of door.

Hinge replacement

Hinge replacement is the best solution especially if your hinges are made of thinner metal construction.  When the metal screws that attach hinge to door come unscrewed from door than the metal that hinge screws into has deteriorated and can no longer hold a metal screw and will need nut and bolt to secure hinge. And if that doesn’t fix problem you will need to replace the door panels.rollers, hinges and other parts
Broken hinges mostly happen with hinges made by Clopay and Overhead Door brand doors. These manufactures hinges are made of thin metal and don’t last long. When screws work there way out of the door panel, this is common on Overhead Door and Wayne Dalton brand garage doors.
