Do Hardware stores carry parts?

Yes hardware stores do carry some basic garage door and opener parts. Some stores carry more than others. Typically the big retailers like Home Depot or Lowes have a bigger selection than your smaller neighborhood store. You will almost always find replacement rollers, hinges and cables. As far as opener parts you will usually find replacement remotes and safety sensors. The things you won’t find is track, struts and torsion springs. You will find extension springs for one piece flip up doors also the hinges for these types of doors can be found in hardware stores depending on the region of the U.S. you live in.

Garage doors and parts will vary from region to region

After working in the garage door field for 12 years and working from east coast, west coast and in the south. Garage doors and parts will vary from region to region. For example you won’t find any one piece flip up doors in regions that get heavy snowfall because they won’t open with 2 ft. of snow on the ground because the door has to flip out forward. Also it is hard to find extension springs for one piece doors in Texas because there isn’t that many left to repair they all have been replaced. But in California there is still a lot of one piece doors around. So Home Depot stores on the west coast carry an assortment of spring sizes for these types of doors.

Are all these parts the same as a local garage door company? Yes because the manufactures of these door parts sell to all hardware stores and local wholesale part warehouses where garage door companies get their supplies.
